  • Pants

wake up, get up, shape up
    lady!
    put on your pants!
curves and class with a dash of sass
lace up, step up, show up
have the courage to mess up
    put on those heels
    and give em' chills
    power boots
    with your sickest suit
    lady!
    fire up your one-of-a-kind
    business mind
    and go to work
    this day is yours
own it, work it, wring it
for every last drop of opportunity
because that's what a lady does
    when she puts on pants
  • Voice of Potential

Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash
    i have a little voice
    that talks to me
it tells me what to eat
    what to wear
    what to say
    and what to do
    it's not too bossy though
    or too loud
    i know i don't have to listen
    or do what it says
    and usually, i don't
because what it tells me to do
    is always harder
than what i want to do
    but i admit
    sometimes
    i do wonder
    who i'd be
    if i did everything
    the little voice
    tells me
    to do

  • Love Harvest

Photo by Chien Hao Lee on Unsplash
    it's true
the degree to which you open your heart
is the degree to which you can hurt
    but don't be a coward
    throw yourself open
    be vulnerable
    and greedy
    gather all the love
    you can possibly hold
in the basket of your heart

then, if life takes it away
    embrace the waves of grief
    that will surely come
    scatter the remaining petals
    of your love
    on each oceanic swell
    until the surges subside
    and become gentle
    with your heart
    once more

    yes,
    to gather love
    is to be brave
    and wild,
    but wise

    know this:
    hurt never lasts
    beyond life
    but love does

    so, pick up your basket
    return to the fields
    and harvest some love
    again
  • A Good Cry

Photo by Luis Galvez on Unsplash
    today is a dreary day
    the clouds
    in my mind and heart
    are heavy
    saturated
    i feel them condensing
    welling up
    droplets swell
    and fall from my eyes
    becoming rivulets
    down my cheeks
    i tilt my head back
    ahhh . . .
    sweet release
    reposeful flow
    i breathe . . .
    in . . . and out . . .
    in . . . and out . . .
    in . . .
    and out . . .

    the clouds are lifting
    the horizon is clearing
    my tears are evaporating
    i begin to feel
    warm inside

    it's done
    i'm clean
    refreshed
    from the inside out

    now, a glass of water
    a nap, to recharge
    then
    i'll be ready
    to begin again

  • Validation

Photo by Braden Barwich on Unsplash
    excuse me,

will you look deep in my eyes
put your hand on my cheek
    and whisper reassurance
    that i'm seen
    that i have value
    that i'm special?

    sincerely,

    every human
